MPH students are expected to have the quantitative preparedness to complete the curriculum at the time of admission. We strongly encourage all applicants to ensure that they are equipped to successfully complete the quantitative content of the MPH program. It is up to the applicant to demonstrate this competency through the application package. A general review of coursework and/or experience will be assessed at the time of review once an application is complete.

Applicants to the program should ensure that there is previous knowledge and competency for the statistics component of the curriculum. For example, the student should feel confident in their ability to handle the coursework in SPPH 400.

When determining if a course delivers sufficient quantitative training, key topics to look for in your syllabus include most of the following: descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing and confidence intervals, bivariate analysis, two-sample t-test, analysis of variance, chi-square test, correlation and regression, and parametric and nonparametric statistics. Courses in calculus, linear algebra and undergraduate or graduate courses in statistics (that are 100% statistics) would be sufficient.

Please note that the courses listed below are just a ** sampling** of courses that would give a perspective student the recommended quantitative background.
