How to Apply

Applications open: December 1, 2018.

Deadline for September start: February 1, 2019.

Fellows and residents who are advised after our deadline that they require admission to the MHSc to fulfill academic requirements, should contact the Program Office for additional information.

Applicants are encouraged to begin the application process early, in order to leave sufficient time to obtain the necessary documents and test results. Identification of a supervisor is not part of the MHSc admissions process.

1. Confirm eligibility

Applicants should review the admissions requirements before applying to the program.

2. Apply online

Complete the online application. Application fees for domestic applicants is $102.00 CAD and for international applicants is $165.00 CAD. It takes about 45-60 minutes to complete the online application and a credit card is required. If you experience any technical issues with your online application, please email

3. Prepare and submit the required documents

Applicants can submit supporting documents electronically with the online application form. Instructions for the submission of documents will be outlined in the online application system.

Official Transcripts All applicants must upload scans of official transcripts (in PDF format) from all post-secondary institutions attended, including front and back pages. If the official transcript does not indicate the degree name and the degree conferral date, official copies of the degree certificate must be uploaded as well. Please note there are different requirements for Canadian transcripts and international transcripts. Paper transcripts are not required at this stage of the application.
References The form will ask for contact information for three referees and those with institutional emails will be allowed to submit their references online. Please note that referees will only be notified about submitting references once the application has been submitted.
CV The CV should detail your academic and work history, and note any relevant research or related experience (e.x., courses, employment, volunteer work), and publications.
LOI The LOI should detail your career objectives, your research interests and how the MHSc program will meet your career goals, and should be no more than 700 words.
Permanent Resident Card

Permanent residents of Canada must submit a photocopy of both sides of their PR Card.
GRE Scores
(if required)
GRE (or equivalent test) scores must be submitted electronically through the testing agency and we must receive the score by our deadline. We encourage applicants to book a date early if you need to take the GRE.

TOEFL or IELTS test scores must be submitted electronically by our deadline. We encourage applicants to book a date early if you need to take the TOEFL or IELTS.

4. Check your application status online

Applicants can check their application status through the online application system by logging into My Applications and reviewing their Submitted Applications. Please note that we do not contact students directly regarding the status of their documents.

5. Accept offer

Applicants who are offered admissions must accept the offer before the deadline. Instructions on how to do this will be listed in the offer letter.


Your application will be not be considered by the Admissions Committee unless all documents have been received by our deadline.
