How to Apply

Please review the following steps to assist you in preparing and submitting your application.

1. Confirm that you have met all the admission requirements

Students applying from Canada and the US or with International credentials must meet the requirements from the Faculty of Graduate Studies, along with additional program-specific requirements for the MHA.

2. Apply online

All students must apply through the Faculty of Graduate Studies online application system.

The online application opens on November 1, 2017 and students must apply according to the following deadlines:

Application Deadline Document Deadline* Admissions Decisions
Applicants with international credentials February 1, 2018 February 1, 2018 mid-April
Applicants with domestic credentials February 1, 2018 March 1, 2018 mid-April to early May

*The online application system tracks all required documents that must be submitted by the deadlines stated above. In order to ensure all require documents are received, including test scores and references, it is strongly recommended that you begin your application well in-advance of the deadline.

The program only has a September intake. It is not possible to start the program at any other time of the year.

Paying your application fee

There is a non-refundable application fee of $143.00 (CAD) and is payable only by credit card when applying online.

3. Prepare and submit your required documents

Applicants can submit supporting documents electronically with the online application form. Instructions for the submission of documents will be outlined in the online application system.

Official Transcripts

All applicants must upload scans of official transcripts (in PDF format) from all colleges and universities attended, including all front and back pages, in the online application system. If the official transcript does not indicate the degree name and the degree conferral date, then official copies of the degree certificate must be uploaded as well. The Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral studies provides detailed instructions for Domestic and International transcript submissions.

Official paper copies must be sent directly to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. Only admitted students will be required to submit paper transcripts to confirm their offers of admission.

References Contact three individuals who will be able to provide a reference on your behalf. The online application form generates electronic references for referees with institutional emails (ie. not free accounts such as gmail or yahoo). For referees submitting paper letters, these must be sent directly to the MHA Program Office in sealed envelopes with a referee’s signature over the seal. Please note that referees will only receive a notification to submit references once the UBC application has been submitted.
CV Upload your Curriculum Vitae during the online application process.
LOI Upload your Letter Of Intent during the online application process.
Permanent Resident Card

Permanent residents of Canada must submit a photocopy of both sides of their PR Card.
Test Scores (if required) All test scores should be sent electronically by our deadline. For English Language Proficiency tests, results must be submitted directly from the test centre to UBC only. For all other tests, an official paper test score report ordered from the testing agency is required. Photocopies of test scores are not acceptable.

4. Check your application and document status

Applicants can view the status of your application and documents through the Graduate Studies online application system.

5. Accept your offer and pay the acceptance deposit

If you are offered admission into the program, pay your $1,000 (CAD) acceptance deposit and accept your offer before the deadline. Instructions on how to do this will be provided in the offer letter.
