Dr. Borugian is an Emerita Scientist with the BC Cancer Research Centre.

She previously served as the Director of the provincial prospective cohort, the BC Generations Project, and as an epidemiologist with the Cancer Control Research Program of the British Columbia Cancer Research Centre. She is a Clinical Associate Professor with the School of Population and Public Health at the University of British Columbia.

Trained in epidemiology, computer systems development, and psychology, she has published on the associations of diet, body shape, insulin resistance and socioeconomic status with cancer risk and prognosis, including breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and childhood cancers. Her research focuses on cancer prevention and early detection, in particular with respect to mammographic breast density: how it relates to breast cancer, and how it might be modified to reduce risk and improve cancer detection.
