Continuing Education

Our Continuing Education Program delivers professional development opportunities for health professionals with a commitment to maintaining and enhancing professional competence. It provides a venue for communicating research findings and teaching best practices. It also creates an opportunity to network with researchers and other professionals. Our community of learners work in diverse organizations and have varied backgrounds and experience. Our courses are recognized by professional organizations as providing educational value through the granting of certification maintenance points.

We welcome opportunities to collaborate and encourage prospective partners in continuing professional education to contact us. We have had many valued partners in education, including:

  • government agencies (e.g., National Collaborating Centre for Environmental Health, BC Health Authorities, WorkSafeBC, BC Ministry of Environment),
  • NGOs (e.g., BC Environmental and Occupational Health Research Network, BC Association of Kinesiologists, Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia),
  • other universities (e.g., University of Washington, University of California at Berkeley, University of Northern British Columbia), and
  • industry partners.

Qualité de l’air extérieur, Santé, et la Cote Air Santé (CAS)

Developed by the UBC School of Population and Public Health and leading air pollution and health experts, this on demand, online course is available until January 31, 2014. There is no cost to participants but registration is required. CME and other professional credits available. Dr. Ma is past Chair of the Minerva BC Working Group of Minerva Canada Safety Management Education Minerva Canada aims "to promote and to facilitate the efforts of universities and community colleges to develop appropriate educational resources for integrating occupational health and safety concepts into existing curricula and to assist faculty and staff in becoming informed on occupational health and safety issues." In recent years Dr. Ma presented lectures to students in the UBC Sauder School of Business on the role of occupational health and safety management excellence as an integral part of their future responsibility at all levels of leadership. Dr. Ma continues to provide information and insights into the field of occupational and environmental hygiene to undergraduate students as they explore options beyond their bachelors degree.
