WorkSafeBC is proud to host the Canadian Association for Research on Work and Health's 2012 conference. A biennial event, CARWH 2012 will focus on innovation in occupational health and safety research, bringing together research experts and research users to expand and advance the dialogue on these topics.

The conference will begin on May 31st with a student day, followed by two days focused on innovative ideas and research in the field of occupational health and safety on June 1 and 2. The conference will include a wide variety keynote presentations, symposia, poster sessions, panel discussions and networking opportunities.

The purpose of this conference is to share cutting‐edge knowledge in occupational health and safety and workers’ compensation. Researchers and stakeholders from a wide variety of disciplines will discuss research findings and exchange ideas about research in this field and how it can be translated into policy and practice that will improve the health and safety of Canadian workers.

This conference will provide researchers with an opportunity to share research results and innovative research methods, explore the applications of research, identify and clarify needs, foster new collaborations and develop ideas, and interact with stakeholders who can put their research to work.

Researchers are encouraged to submit abstracts related to the themes listed below, but submissions are not strictly limited to these themes. Abstract submissions are welcomed from students, trainees, and non‐academic researchers. Symposium and workshop proposals that address a specific theme through panel‐style presentations and discussions, break‐out sessions and other interactive formats are also invited. Proposals and abstracts may be submitted in French and/or English.

Proposals and abstracts can focus on methodological issues, research results, the application of research, innovation and new ideas, knowledge translation and exchange, or any combination thereof.

The BC Forum of the Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research (www.ccghr.ca) will be holding its Inaugural BC Forum Global Health Conference on March 16—17, 2012, at the The Wosk Centre for Dialogue and Simon Fraser University’s Harbour Centre, Vancouver, BC

They are now accepting workshop proposals related to the conference’s main theme: Knowledge to Action.

The purpose of the 1.5 hour workshops held on day 2 is:

• to provide learning, mentorship and leadership to students undertaking global health research,
• to build knowledge and expertise on specific issue areas related to pursuing global health research, and
• to promote partnering and networking amongst BC’s academic institutions.

Workshop Proposals
Proposals should be no longer than one page and include title, Facilitator credentials and/or experience, description (250 words max.), clear learning outcomes and contact information. Please submit to jocelyn.conway@ubc.ca no later than 5:00 pm PST on January 6, 2012.

Poster Session
Students are invited to submit up to 2 abstracts showcasing their work or research on any global health subject. The abstracts will be adjudicated by a peer-review committee and accepted students will be invited to present their work in a poster session at the end of Day One. All posters will also be displayed during Day Two. Prizes will be awarded for the top three submissions. Abstracts can be submitted on no more than one page in either of two formats:

• Scientific abstracts with the following headings: Background, Methods, Results, Conclusion, or
• Programmatic abstracts with the following headings: Issues, Description, Lessons Learned and Recommendations.

Population Data BC is partnering with the Canadian Population Health Initiative of the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) to deliver a conference and related workshops focusing on Population Health Data Analysis: From Infrastructure to Innovation. 

These events will take place from February 8th to 10th at the Simon Fraser University, Harbour Centre, downtown Vancouver, BC.

The conference and related workshops will be designed to meet the interests of researchers, faculty members, graduate students and representatives from government and health related organizations who work in the area of Population and Public Health.

The Centre for Population Health Promotion Research (CPHPR) is donating 276 childrens books to the Grandview Elementary, an inner-city school in Vancouver.

The group will start collecting childrens books again in the new year.
